As part of my collaboration with EIRL in 2023, I worked on designing the UI/UX for Khabar Ghatna, a hyperlocal Hindi news and civic reporting app developed for the city of Jabalpur. The platform was envisioned as both a public interest news portal and a citizen feedback system for local governance, enabling residents to raise civic issues directly to municipal authorities and community leaders. The design approach focused on intuitive bilingual accessibility, cultural relevance, and smooth onboarding. I created a warm and welcoming user experience using familiar gestures, bold Hindi typography, and iconography rooted in Indian visual language. Key features include categorized news feeds, issue reporting forms, and personalized content recommendations based on user interests. The design system balanced clarity and civic tone with a friendly interface, ensuring ease of use across age groups and literacy levels. The final UI promotes community engagement, transparency in governance, and encourages civic participation all while staying rooted in the ethos of local journalism.
